How to remove a key lock on my front / rear doors without the key?

When we bought our house, the former owners do not leave us with a key chain lock on the door front and rear doors. The problem is, I want it because we went to paint baseboards and I can not go down without a key. This is the kind that attaches to the door and the inside wall. Try to drill the lock using a quarter inch high forest. Purpose of the bit in your electric drill right up front blocking when the top of the key in.
